Discussion:
Folder with no Security tab cannot be deleted

I have a user who has copied - or attempted to copy - a folder to their
profile's My Documents, which is redirected to a network storage server.
This folder (A) contains a subfolder (B) which contains another subfolder
(C). Both A and B display the all the tabs in the Properties pages.
However, subfolder C has no Security tab and cannot be deleted. It throws an
Access Denied error.

I have attempted taking ownership of all folders in the hierarchy and
replacing permissions on all subfolders as either the domain or server
administrator, but the Access Denied error occurs there, too. Have also
tried all this from the command prompt, too, but error is the same. Access
denied.

The lack of the Security tab in this one folder alone makes me think this
looks an awful lot like a link to folder, instead of a folder itself, but I
have no way of confirming that or knowing what it links to or how to remove
it. In fact, the Properties tabs look exactly like those of any link created
in DFS under the root that links to a folder on another server. (there's no
Security tab on those folders, either) I checked DFS and this folder is not
listed... users don't have access to DFS administration.

So, I'm stuck. I've got a user who can't tell me what she did, but wants
this folder removed... only no one in the domain can delete it, including her.

Anyone know how to remove a folder with no Security tab?
TIA

Make yourself a Windows 7 Repair CD
(http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/), then boot
the machine with this cd. Now start a Command Prompt and delete the problem
folder.

I forgot to mention that your drive letters may be different when booting
with a Windows 7 Repair Disk. Make sure to examine all drive letters!

Should have also mentioned that this folder that cannot be deleted resides on
a Windows 2003 R2 Storage Server; storage drives are in a RAID5 array
formatted using NTFS.

Sorry for the ommission.

Have followed all applicable resolutions in KB320081, but am unable to change
Security on this folder or delete it.

Did you try the method I suggested? It works!
