I did find a post recently which I have used to cause future installs to hit drive D: under Win XP and Win 2K3. But it seems to be reliant on the coding practices of the programmer. They might not pick up the registry location, for example Kaspersky 2010 does not.

I have the same problem, but did not find any other way than doing a severe regedit. I've moved to an another driverletter the stuff.
Did you find any new idea, Ameli ?
I would be very interested to know.

Change c:\windows\installer path
Hello
Our Server c: drives are filling up with *.msp Patch installer files in
c:\Windows\installe
I can move these files (unless I need to rollback a patch) but preference
would be to change to location of where *.msi and *.msp files are put but
can't find much info on this and too generic an entry for Registry Search.
Any smarties who knwo this one
Thanks

Search.
Maybe someone knows how to change this location but eve
then your relief will be short-lived. You should bite the bulle
now while you can and increase the size of your syste
partition to a more appropriate level, either by cloning you
disk or by rebuilding your server.

Thanks for the reply Pegasus..
The aim is to repoint it to SAN disk, then we can manage it there long term
as expandable
C: is kept small for images to be taken and SAN disk for datas logs etc...
and cannot be change already unless full Prod environment is rebuilt
Any other ideas

Re: Change c:\windows\installer path
There are a few hundred references to C:\Windows\Installer i
the registry. You could change each and every one of them t
a different location and see what happens. If you do then yo
must first backup your registry with a tool such as regback.exe
I would consider this course of action only under extrem
duress and even then I would first test things on a test machine
