I have Win7 Home Premium 64 bit and WLM

For ten years with Win98 SE, OE6 and IE6 I had very little difficulty in
opening files. Now, with my new computer and e-mail client I am having
considerable difficulty opening such files, although I have persevered. I
think I need educating on this topic and would appreciate advice, however
basic. Maybe there is a magical download which caters for all eventualities.

More details are needed. What files (specifically what extensions/file
types) are you having trouble with? Exactly how are you trying to open
them? What happens when you try? What error messages do your see?

Are you sure you have programs on your computer that can handle the
files you want to see? For example, if you're trying to open *.doc or
*.docx files, do you have MS Word, or the Word viewer, or Open Office
installed?

Of those three I have Microsoft Office Word 2007.

In Documents I have a folder named Bev & Alex Wedding.eml which contains
nine .eml files. They will not open even when I rename the folder .mht or
.jpg. I should add that this was .dbx folder which I imported from OE
together with Folders.dbx. The error: 'Word cannot open
"C:Users\\EmrysDavies\Documents\Bev & Alex Wedding\Bev & Alex 3.eml." The
file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be
supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt."
MOW says: 'Bev & Alex' is not a valid Single File Web Page'.

.eml files are generated by various EMail programs. You need to open them
with the EMail program you used at the time. Renaming a folder has no effect
on your ability or the method to open a file - it is the internal file
format that counts, not the folder name.
